What to Expect at Your Bridal Hair & Makeup Trial

Your bridal trial is one of the most exciting (and important) parts of wedding planning. It’s the moment everything starts to feel real — when the vision in your mind becomes something you can actually see in the mirror.
After more than 18 years creating bridal looks across the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Byron Bay, I’ve learned that the brides who feel the most calm and confident on the day are almost always the ones who attended their their trial and who came prepared.
It’s the two of us refining the vision until it feels effortless and completely you.
Here’s exactly what to expect when you book a trial with me, and how to get the most out of it
We’ll start by talking through your dress, your venue, colours, flowers, bridesmaids dresses and any photos or inspiration you’ve saved. I’ll also look carefully at your skin, hair texture, eye shape and colouring so the look is tailored specifically to you.
You’ll leave with a clear understanding of:
• How your makeup will sit and photograph in natural light
• How your hair will hold through humidity, movement and emotion
• Where you’d like your veil placement
• What products and techniques we’ll use on the day
Remember: There’s no pressure to decide everything in one sitting.
Many of my brides make small refinements after the trial, and that’s completely normal.
What you should bring and how to prepare
•Photos of your wedding dress
•Wear a similar neckline dress/top (ideally white or close to your wedding dress colour)
• Any hair accessories or veil you’re considering
• Photos of looks you love
• Clean, dry hair (washed the night before) and bare skin with your usual skincare (skipping the oils, sunscreen and serums please).
The Day of Your Trial
Just like on the wedding day, I prefer to work in a calm, unhurried way. I like to start with your hair so if curls need setting they can do so, then move onto makeup. You’ll have time to look at yourself in different lighting, take photos, and simply sit with the finished look.
A few gentle tips for the best result
• Arrive with a light breakfast and plenty of water — glowing skin starts from within.
• Follow the preparation guide you will receive in the lead up to your appointment.
• Keep the appointment just for you if possible. It’s easier to focus and speak freely without a full audience. If you prefer company, one friend is welcome.
• Trust the process. Your trial is about finding the most beautiful, wearable version of you, not copying a picture exactly and not necessarily what is trending.
• Follow the preparation guide you will receive in the lead up to your appointment.
• Keep the appointment just for you if possible. It’s easier to focus and speak freely without a full audience. If you prefer company, one friend is welcome.
By the end of your trial you’ll have a good understanding of how long everything takes, how the products feel on your skin, how your hair wears and how the finished look photographs. That knowledge removes so much of the unknown from the wedding morning and makes the personalised timeline we create together even more accurate.
Your trial is where the magic begins. It’s the first time you get to see yourself as a bride and it’s one of my favourite parts of the entire process.
