Why Your Getting-Ready Timeline Matters
Hair and makeup isn’t just about looking beautiful (though of course that’s a big part of it). Those candid getting-ready moments: your mum helping with your dress, your bridesmaids laughing together, and the quiet excitement before you walk down the aisle. These are some of the most photographed and treasured parts of the day.
A well-planned timeline protects those memories. It ensures unhurried photos, time for breakfast, and space for all the little moments that make your morning magical. The best part? You don’t have to figure it out yourself. I take care of the details so you can simply enjoy being pampered.
How Long Does Bridal Hair and Makeup Actually Take?
Here’s a general guide based on my experience (these are tailored during your consultation):
• Bride – hair and makeup: 2 to 2.5 hours.
You always receive the longest, most attentive slot. This includes time for final touches and those special, unhurried moments that should be savoured.
• Bridesmaids – hair and makeup: 1.5-2hrs per person (This can vary with style complexity—think intricate updos versus soft beach waves.)
• Hair only or makeup only: 45minutes to 1hr per person
• Mothers of the bride and groom (and other guests): 45 minutes to 1 hour. Mums and special guests deserve the same care and attention. No one gets rushed.
These are starting points. Your hair length, texture, chosen looks, and party size all play a role, which is why I build everything around your specific needs.
Who Gets Styled When? The Ideal Order
The sequence matters just as much as the total time. My recommended approach (which I build into every personalised timeline):
Start with the bridesmaids, mums, and other guests. This gets everyone looking beautiful early so they can relax and enjoy the morning.
The bride is always second-to-last. This keeps your look fresh and ensures my full focus is on you during those final, beautiful moments.
Flower girls are styled at the very end so their hair and makeup can better withstand all the joyful running around and playful energy that a wedding day can bring.
There’s something truly magical about being one of the final reveals. The whole room lights up when the bride is ready.
Always Build in a Generous Buffer Time
I always add 30minutes (or more) of buffer to every timeline at the end.
Little things inevitably pop up—a late flower delivery, a tricky zipper, or a playful flower girl needing a quick cuddle. Buffer time turns those into sweet memories instead of stress.
I also recommend finishing hair and makeup at least 30 minutes before you step into your dress, and being fully dressed at least 1-1.5hrs before the ceremony.
This gives your photographer time for those stunning portraits and leaves you space to simply breathe and soak it all in.
